Hyundai starts the year 2014 with 13% growth

Performance and Drivers

Hyundai Asia Resources, official distributor of Hyundai vehicles in the Philippines, started the year on high gear with an impressive 13% growth year-on-year. Sales last month hit a total of 2,243 units, up from the 1,992 units sold in the same period last year.

The Passenger cars (PC) segment recorded an outstanding 17% growth in sales, soaring to a total of 1,447 units last month against the 1,236 units sold in January 2013.  The PC segment’s kick-start was headed by the resilient segment leader Eon, which grew by a remarkable 232% year-on-year.

Sales in the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segment experienced a 5% surge to total 796 units from the 756 units sold in January 2013. The rebound of  the LCV front was propelled by the positive gains and timely arrival of Hyundai’s forefront models; Grand Starex, Santa Fe and H-100.

Sales and Economic Outlook

Proving its strong macro fundamentals, the series of natural calamities did not hinder the economy to grow by 7.2% in 2013. The country’s rising macro story continues to be solidified by buoyant investment activities, growing business landscape and robust domestic demand.  The economy’s prevalent strength is expected to carry on in 2014 supported by an anticipated construction boom, sustained influx of remittances and resilient household spending. With the economy’s strong and positive outlook, the automotive industry is seen to cruise another stellar year in 2014 as brisk consumer demand and favourable financing terms will push sales to new record-highs.

Finals, Round 6 of 2013 Hyundai Lateral Drift Championship

Last November 30 at Mega Tent Libis, Quezon City – was the final Round 6 of the Hyundai Lateral Drift Championships which made history again by being the first and longest drifting series in the country. Since 2006 drifting started here in the Philippines, Lateral Drift Production has been in the fore front of this motorsport craze. This milestone marks their 8th year, in partnership with Hyundai Asia Resources Inc.

This year’s series raised the competition to another level by bringing in international judges from Japan. Kimihiro Obata and Hiromi Kajikuma, the drift couple and veterans from Formula D and D1 Gran Prix , they were able to set the standard to an international level. All our local competitors gained so much drifting knowledge from them, that the competition showed much skill level, brought excitement to the drivers and proud to say that they’ve really improved a lot.

The Amateur division started the event first and AM championship leader Mark Bernardo of Team ConceptOne / Saffiro tires has his eyes on this year overall Amateur Championship. All he needed to do was to qualify the highest among his fellow competitors. He clinched the amateur series and he did his best in qualifying as his cars runned perfectly the whole day. Overwhelmed that he already won the championship and not needed to finish on top, he was happy to not to make it to the podium. In 3rd place Karr Montaner of team Turbo café, followed by Raoul Olbes of Team GMW in 2nd place and the youngest drifter age 16 years old Luis Gono of Team Autoplus / Motul in 1st place.

It was Pros Division Championship leader Gio Rodriquez of Pilipinas Got talent 4 and Team Atoycustoms who was also in a similar situation. Leading the whole entire season, he had a cushion overall the contenders. Defending Champion Alex Perez of Team Yellow Cab was close to his tail that anyone of them who qualifying well during the qualifying will win this year overall Pro Championship. In the end of qualifying, it was time to pass the torch to the new overall Pro Champion Gio Rodriguez, as he displayed his high speed on the edge drifting in front of everyone. Rodriguez finishes in 3rd place for Round 6, follow by Alex Perez in 2nd place and John Boban of team DriftMOB in 1st place for round 6.

This season was the best I have ever seen drift here in the Philippines since it Lateral Drift started. Next year, together with Hyundai Philippines and Standard Insurance and the rest of the sponsors they will surely take it to another Level. Hyundai Green Dealership DESIGN Competition Awardees

Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI) and the University of the Philippines-Diliman College of Architecture (UPCA) capped the three-month Hyundai Green Dealership DESIGN competition with the awarding of winners last November 25, 2013 at the Eastwood Richmonde Hotel.

1. Green is their thing. HARI and UP College of Architecture top guns present the cash award and trophies to Hyundai Green Dealership DESIGN Competition First Placers. (L-R) HARI Senior Vice President for Car and Life Business Development Numeriano Cortez, Jr.; UP College of Architecture Dean Mary Ann Espina; winners Carla Lim, Francis Timothy Santos, and Carem Morales; and HARI Dealer Partnership and Development Manager Victor Jose Vela.

Bagging First Place was the team of Francis Timothy Santos, Carla Lim, and Carem Morales who conceptualized a green Hyundai Central EDSA. Second Place went to Aedriane Celis and Danilo Donor who worked on the green design for Hyundai Commonwealth Avenue. Third Place went to Patrick Lawrence Monfort, Jilliane Gomez and Andrey Lopez who were assigned to Hyundai E. Rodriguez. Winners received trophies and cash prizes.

The awarding took on more relevance as it was held during the fellowship night of the three-day South East Asia (SEA) Regional Sustainable Buildings Manila Conference (SB13), a prestigious regional conference on green design, planning, and engineering practices.

DESIGN, the acronym for DEALERSHIP EXCELLENCE THROUGH SUSTAINABLE, INTELLIGENT GREEN NETWORK, is expected to be the next big thing for HARI’s nationwide fortress of 41 dealerships.

Graduating students of UP Integrated Architectural Design vied to develop green design standards for selected Hyundai dealerships. The designs had to be consistent with the Hyundai brand philosophy and HARI corporate identity; cost-effective; applicable to the Philippine setting; and should foster the efficient operation and overall performance excellence of Hyundai dealers in the Philippines.

After three months of screening by the UPCA faculty, eight teams were chosen for the final competition. Each team was assigned to study and work on the “greening” of eight pre-selected Hyundai dealers: Hyundai Abad Santos, Alabang Muntinlupa, Central EDSA, Commonwealth, E. Rodriguez, Greenhills, Shaw Boulevard, and Sucat Road.

Final judging was held last November 20, 2013 at the HARI offices in Bonifacio Technology Center (BTC) in Bonifacio Global City. Comprising the panel of judges were UPCA Dean Mary Ann Espina; UPCA professor Alex Evangelista; Green Architecture Advocacy Philippines Chairman Architect Miguel Guerrero III; and HARI President and CEO Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo.

Said Ms. Agudo, “‘Sustainability’ has always been at the core of Hyundai’s operation and brand building agenda way before the word became in vogue. We take sustainability seriously–in the way we design and manufacture our cars, heeding the ever-growing public clamor for businesses to become more conscious about saving the planet in their product design and manufacturing and in their operations. With the implementation of these winning designs, we celebrate the creativity of our young ‘star-chitects’ and add value to our business by addressing our customers’ desire to experience serious green business in action.”

(L-R) HARI Senior Vice President for Car and Life Business Development Numeriano Cortez, Jr.; UP College of Architecture Dean Mary Ann Espina; Second Prize Winners of the Hyundai Green Dealership DESIGN Competition, Danilo Donor and Aedriane Celis; and HARI Dealer Partnership and Development Manager Victor Jose Vela.

This groundbreaking partnership between HARI and UPCA signals HARI’s trademark leadership in innovation, this time in pioneering best green practices at dealership level with the view of pursuing sustainable businesses for a more sustainable world, in and from the Philippines.
